First trip to the Zoo

I had a half of a personal day left and we made a "date" to take Zoe to the zoo. We weren't sure we were going to be able to go then because of the weather forecast....it kept showing rain, rain, rain. That day, we decided that there may be enough of a window for us to make it there and walk around without getting wet. The entire time we were there, it looked like rain, but we never felt a drop! It was very hot and muggy though!
At first, I don't think that Zoe understood that the animals were wild and had to stay caged where we couldn't touch them, but then she got the hang of it.
The first thing we got to see was the new polar bear exhibit. It was so neat to see! We went to the under water viewing area, but the best part was above ground when the bear swam right up and looked at Zoe in her stroller!

We went into the aquarium and Zoe tried out the touch tank (with mommy's encouragement of course). Silly guy kept telling her she had to just tap the items with one finger - she wanted to pet them!

In the manatee area, she could have cared less about the manatees, but loved watching the other fish that were in the tank. She also noticed all the lettuce floating around :)

Our next stop was at the carousel. Daddy got the fun job of riding on this one! Mommy doesn't do well going in circles!

Next up were the Apes and monkeys. The little baby was absolutely adorable - it was missing a leg :( Zoe thought the big ones were funny sleeping with their mouths open. We got a huge kick out of the monkey next to the glass. It had quite the personality! I would pucker up and it would cozy up next to the glass. Zoe would do it and it would hit the glass and turn it's head. This went on for quite a while along with some other funny antics from him :)

Finally, we got to see the elephants. There were 2 in the building and were very fun to watch. They were feeding themselves hay by throwing it up and catching it in their mouth - fascinating for a 2 year old. Mommy and daddy were a little more "fascinated" with the male elephant :)
